Humane Society Naples, Southwest Florida’s premiere no-kill shelter, is seeking Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead our animal shelter operations and help fulfill our lifesaving mission. What You'll Do:
As COO, you'll oversee HSN's sheltering operations and be at the heart of our mission to improve the lives of companion animals. You’ll lead a talented team and ensure the highest standards of animal care, while developing and implementing programs that promote adoption, animal health, and community engagement. Key responsibilities include:
- Innovate: Work closely with the CEO and team to implement strategies that reduce shelter length of stay, promote adoptions, and enhance animal care.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and guide a dedicated team including shelter site Managers, Facilities Manager, Adoption Coordinator, and Foster Coordinator. Foster a positive, collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork.
- Shelter Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operations of all shelter locations, ensuring the highest standards of care, admission practices, animal behavioral management, cleanliness, and safety for both animals and staff.
- Emergency Response: Lead the response to urgent situations, such as severe weather or emergency shelter operations.
- Leadership: Proven experience in leading teams, with a focus on motivating staff and volunteers to deliver outstanding animal care.
- Animal Expertise: In-depth knowledge of animal health, behavior, and sheltering best practices, with a focus on compassion and effective adoption strategies.
- Communication: Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with staff, volunteers, donors, and the public.
- Problem Solver: The ability to think quickly and adapt to evolving situations, while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of experience supervising and managing personnel, preferably in an animal care setting.
- A minimum of 5 years working with companion animals, preferably in a shelter, veterinary clinic, or similar environment.
- The ability to see at approximately 20/20 vision with or without assistive devices
- The ability to hear or read lips with or without assistive devices
- The ability to use arms, hands, and fingers, including fine motor movements
- The ability to independently lift up to 40 lbs
- Personnel in this position can expect to engage in moderate physical labor, including but not limited to bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, and lifting, as well as sitting or standing for long periods of time.
Compensation
- $100,000-$120,000 annually, depending on experience
