POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Human Resources plans, develops, and implements all policies, procedures, and systems of the Human Resources (HR) office, fostering legal compliance and contributing to the success of the agency’s mission and strategy.

The Director supervises a team of HR staff members who specialize in recruitment, operations, and retention. Together, the team serves 200-250 Italian Home employees. The Director provides ongoing evaluation of the office’s activities, prioritizes HR objectives, and reports on outcomes. Complex employee relations and legal matters will be handled by the Director, who commits to adhering to all federal, state, and local employment laws and maintaining the strictest confidentiality. Additional responsibilities include oversight of employee performance evaluation and succession planning, maintenance of all employee records, evaluation of benefits and salary packages, research on best practice and market comparisons, and optimization of the agency’s HRIS for more data-driven decision-making.

 


This position reports to the Chief Strategy and People Officer. It is full-time and hybrid, with some in-office days required. Hours are traditional weekend/daytime hours with an expectation of occasional evenings or weekends for staff emergencies or agency events. No travel required.

 


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with executive leadership, primarily the Chief Strategy and People Officer, to understand the organization’s objectives related to staffing, recruitment, and retention
  • Partner with leaders across departments and functions to improve agency culture, increase employee engagement, enhance the safety and well-being of staff, and reduce turnover
  • Oversee all HR programs including, but not limited to, onboarding, compensation, benefits, leave, disciplinary matters, investigations, performance management, productivity, recognition, training, development, and offboarding
  • Monitor and ensure the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, staying up-to-date with regulatory changes and best practice
  • Develop, implement, and disseminate policies, procedures, and guidelines for employees, including but not limited to an annual review of the agency’s Employee Handbook
  • Manage complex employee relations and serve as liaison with agency counsel when necessary
  • Lead the maximization of HRIS usage, in partnership with the Director of Systems and Data, and present metrics for decision-making and impact
  • Contribute informed recommendations regarding compensation and benefits; oversee annual open enrollment negotiations and presentation to employees
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and diversity, equity, & inclusion; apply this knowledge to changes in policy, practice, and resources within the HR office; and communicate this knowledge to senior and executive leadership
  • Foster the professional development of each member of the HR office, fulfilling all duties as the primary supervisor for the HR Generalist, HR Recruiter, and additional HR staff according to the needs of the HR office
  • Ensure that all employee files are up-to-date, accurate, and available when appropriate for accreditation, licensing, and other compliance matters
  • Oversee resolution of payroll matters in partnership with Finance department

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of four years’ experience in HR, with two years’ experience in a position leading an HR office required
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field preferred (eg Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Management)
  • Human Resources certification preferred (eg SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP)
  • Experience in nonprofit health and human services a plus
  • Experience with the Paycom platform a plus

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated management skills and a passion for positive organizational culture
  • Thorough knowledge of labor and employment laws and ability to collaborate with agency legal counsel
  • Sound judgment, discretion, integrity, and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to prioritize, manage time, and pivot when necessary
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and LMS
