President/CEO

Position Title: President – Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

FSLA Status: Salaried / Exempt

Position Status: Full Time

Overview:

The Sylvester-Worth County Chamber of Commerce is organized to promote, maintain, and enhance relationships among citizens of the community, businesses, educational and governmental agencies. The Sylvester-Worth County Chamber is comprised of a diverse membership of individuals, small businesses, non-profits, governmental agencies, and schools within the county. The President/CEO will serve as a constant support and resource for businesses and non-profit organizations of all types and sizes.

The President/CEO role requires a uniquely qualified professional who is as comfortable being the “face” of the organization as they are completing financial analysis and strategic planning efforts that will ensure the Chamber continues to be successful for years to come.

Self-motivation, unbiased in nature, and professionalism are a must, as well as possessing the ability to organize, plan, lead, and manage at both macro and micro levels. The President/CEO must also possess strong critical thinking, and analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as the ability to demonstrate the value of the Sylvester-Worth County Chamber and its mission to the community, its partners, members, potential members, and sponsors. Must have good listening skills, be open to receiving constructive feedback and have a passion for member engagement, networking, and collaboration.

Primary Accountabilities:

The President/CEO is responsible for the full range of operations for the Chamber. Responsibilities include management of the Chambers Program of Work, organizational structure and procedures, motivation of volunteers and staff, income and expenditures, maintenance of facilities, and long-range planning.

Duties to include:

  • Serves as the President/CEO of the Sylvester-Worth County Chamber of Commerce.
  • Understands and works within the constraints of the Chamber By-Laws
  • Manage the Program of Work - Through the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors the President/CEO shares the responsibility for the of Program of Work to address the needs of and community. The preparation of a Program of Work for the Chamber designed to address those needs. This involves constant management and evaluation of the program with recommendations for changes as needed.
  • Structure and Procedures – The President/CEO must be constantly attentive to the internal structures of the Chamber to ensure the organization is effectively managed to function with maximum efficiency in the anticipation, identification, and solution of Chamber and community problems and issues. The President/CEO will recommend to the Board such changes as needed.
  • Motivation of Volunteers – Key to the effectiveness of the Chamber is the ability of the President to motivate, manage, and inspire volunteers to creative and productive action.
  • Preparation and Monitoring of Budget – Through the Treasurer and Executive Committee, the President/CEO is responsible for preparing the Chamber budget, relating the budget to program goals, and managing the progress. The President/CEO is responsible for managing all expenditures within the framework of the approved budget. The President/CEO is responsible for providing monthly financial statements of income and expenses for review by the Board.
  • Membership Retention – The President/CEO is responsible for managing the membership retention rate to ensure the successful operation of the Chamber.
  • Employee Management - The President/CEO is responsible for the employment and management of all chamber personnel and has the responsibility for the assignment of staff duties. The Executive Committee may assist the President in the selection of the personnel, but the Chamber personnel work for and are supervised by the President.
  • Interpretation of Policy- The President/CEO will manage the policies and procedures of the Chamber to ensure that they are adhered to and updated regularly. The President/CEO will assist the Executive Board, Board of Directors, committees, members, supporters, partners, and staff in the interpretation of policy and procedures. The President/CEO will assist the chairman in the preparation of statements of the Chamber's position on public issues.
  • Plans and maintains the Calendar of Events - Oversees scheduling of Ribbon Cuttings, Ground Breakings, Lunch and Learns, and all other special events organized by the Chamber. Oversees the administration of Leadership Worth Class, Georgia Peanut Festival, and any other contractual agreements with the Chamber with outside organizations.
  • Facility Maintenance - The President/CEO is responsible for the management and maintenance of the Chamber facilities to provide for an efficient operation and provide an attractive facility for the use of Chamber members, business clients, citizens, visitors, and staff.
  • Economic Development –The President/CEO will work within the contractual agreement with the Worth County EDA and the City of Sylvester to market Sylvester-Worth County and provide resources and guidance to new and existing businesses in Worth County.
  • Liaison to Statewide Organizations – The President/CEO will be an active member of the Georgia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (GACCE) and the Georgia Economic Developers Association (GEDA). The President/CEO is encouraged to serve as a board member of these associations and be an active member of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, US Chamber of Commerce, and Locate South Georgia. The president should be encouraged to become active in any other economic development association related to the position and promotion of the community.
  • Long-Range Planning – Under a constantly evolving Board, the President/CEO must anticipate emerging and long-range needs and goals and recommend appropriate action to successfully meet these needs and goals.
  • Professional Conduct – The President/CEO shall respond to and work with other staff members, the Executive Board, the Board of Directors, supporters, members, volunteers, business clients, and the general public in a courteous, professional, and cooperative manner. The President shall also project a professional image in dress, appearance, and conduct at all times.
  • Professional Development – The President/CEO will participate in professional development courses that will strengthen his/her role as President/CEO. The President/CEO will encourage staff members to do the same and will oversee staff training for the Chamber personnel.
  • Communication Management – The President/CEO will monitor and oversee all social media, emails, and written communication with the membership, community, and media.
  • Other Duties - The President may be asked by the Board to perform other duties as required to ensure that the overall policies and priorities of the Chamber are met efficiently and effectively.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a liaison between the Sylvester-Worth County Chamber of Commerce, the City of Sylvester, the Worth County Board of Commissioners, the Worth County EDA, the City of Poulan, the Town of Sumner, the City of Warwick, and the Worth County Board of Education to help ensure that the community is united with its message.
  • Serves as an active member or Chamber Representative to applicable community organizations.
  • Works with our Worth County Schools to help prepare the workforce for the future and promote business and community involvement in our schools.
  • Promotes tourism and supports our local plantations and other tourism-related businesses
  • Agriculture is the lifeblood of Worth County. Work closely with our agriculturally based businesses, farmers, and organizations to help promote our farming community.
  • Provides customer service for Chamber members and the public and assures that the mission and vision of the Chamber are fulfilled.

  • Strong ability to listen, receive feedback, and foster teamwork and collaboration between the board, staff, members, community leaders, and strategic committees and organizations.
  • Strong executive and supervisory skills, including the ability to set expectations and manage performance. Can plan, organize, lead, delegate, and monitor daily operations.
  • Demonstrate a passion for collaboration and networking. Will need to believe in the mission of the Chamber.
  • Ability to work a wide and flexible range of business hours.
  • Strong business acumen, including demonstrated ability to manage a budget, and analyze organizational performance and project financial performance.
  • Proficient user knowledge of computer operations including software, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.), Canva, QuickBooks, and Google Docs. Must have the willingness to learn new technology and update the software when needed.
  • Demonstrated success with and willingness to do fundraising.
  • Ability to perform a cost-benefit analysis of proposed ideas, projects, and events.
  • Ability to lead by personal involvement and example while delegating wisely.
  • Ability to motivate others to be champions of the Chambers's initiatives.
  • Excellent skills in community consensus building.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • A High School Diploma with 5-8 Years of relevant work experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with 1-2 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Successful experience in executive-level Chamber management or as a CEO, President, Executive Director, General Manager, or similar role with either a non-profit organization or for-profit business desired.

Technical Skills:

  • Competent use and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) is required,
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks is strongly preferred.
  • Social media platform knowledge on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn is strongly preferred. Willingness to learn web page and social media analytics and oversee the management of the back end of the Chamber web page.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
