Jasper Mountain operates a school at both agency sites, SAFE Center & Jasper Mountain Center. We are a K-8 private school operated by Jasper Mountain, a private non-profit agency which provides treatment services for traumatized children in residential and day treatment settings. Jasper Mountain School is registered through the Oregon Department of Education as a Private alternative school. The school works closely with Springfield Public Schools and specializes in students with serious mental health and behavioral issues.
- A Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree is preferred.
- Oregon Teaching license or equivalent required.
- Special Education Certification strongly preferred butnot required.
- Experience and/or training in child development including the implications of child abuse and its effect on the learning styles and behavior of elementary school-aged children.
- A willingness to take feedback from the school Treatment Team to implement alternative and innovative instructional strategies for students with behavioral needs.
DUTIES:
- Teach smaller sized, multi-age classrooms.
- Provide individual, small group, and classroom instruction guided by teacher sub plans.
- Follow individualized educational plans (IEPs) for identified students.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students.
- Demonstrate the ability to maintain classroom management and the ability to work collaboratively with classroom behavior/treatment staff, creating a therapeutic learning environment.
- Have effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Note: Agency practices include use of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) non-violent crisis intervention approach for de-escalation and safety. Training provided.
