Department Summary:

The University of Michigan (UM) University Health and Counseling (UHC), a unit of Student Life, is a large ambulatory, multispecialty health clinic that serves a large and diverse student body of more than 45,000 students, as well as UM faculty and staff. UHC provides clinical services throughout its primary care and specialty clinics, as well as health and wellness education and promotion. UHC is committed to promoting and protecting the health of students and other members of the University community so that they achieve their educational and personal goals. Through our programs, services and partnerships, we foster lifelong learning in support of individuals' becoming active participants in their health and wellness.

Position Summary:

UHC is currently seeking a social worker to assist patients seeking services at UHC. Serving as a clinical liaison between UHC Primary Care, UHC Psychiatry, and outside mental health providers, the social worker bridges gaps in the mental health system of care through ongoing assessment, short-term bridge counseling, proactive outreach, consultations with other providers, connection to resources, and follow-up. The social worker additionally supports patients with management of medical needs. The position will complement the current cohort of three additional master's level mental health clinicians.
