POSITION TITLE: Research Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Patapoutian Lab is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Technician to contribute to our cutting-edge research in mechanosensation. The successful candidate will work closely with graduate students to support a high-throughput screening project aimed at advancing our understanding of mechanotransduction mechanisms. The lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms of somatosensation. Our research spans diverse topics, including touch, pain, and proprioception. We use interdisciplinary approaches to uncover fundamental insights with implications for human health.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Perform high-throughput screens to identify novel targets involved in mechanosensation.
  • Maintain and culture mammalian cells, ensuring experimental consistency and viability.
  • Produce and handle lentivirus for experimental applications.
  • Conduct calcium imaging experiments and analyze resulting data.
  • Collaborate with team members to optimize experimental protocols and troubleshoot issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments and findings.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, or a related field.
  • A least 1 year of cell culture experience (Required)
  • Experience with virus production, calcium imaging, microscopy, flow cytometry and CRISPR-based cell manipulation (Recommended, we will ask about your experience)
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.

COMPENSATION:

The expected hiring range for this position is $18.67 to $24 per hour, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
