JOB SUMMARY:
The Vice President of Operations provides strategic and operational leadership of all aspects of facilities operations, including parking, buildings and physical property (non-horticultural), third-party contractors, custodial, set up, and weekend and night management operations. This role serves as a member of the senior leadership team and collaborates across the organization to ensure that strategic and operational objectives are met.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Commitment to the Arboretum’s mission and core values
- Manage key facility and operations management staff
- Coordinate and manage maintenance and repair of historical buildings, public and private building spaces, parking lots and garage
- Participate in defining and planning logistics for large events; attend events as necessary
- Plan, manage, and execute major projects
- Develop and implement capital projects
- Supervise service contracts; ensure compliance with contract terms and Arboretum policies and goals
- Prepare and manage the operations budget, monitor expenditures, obtain competitive bids, and ensure financial compliance
- Design and implement policies and procedures related to operations
- Attend and serve as the liaison to appropriate committees of the Board of Directors as assigned
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least five years of management experience that demonstrates progressively responsible leadership roles, preferably in a complex organization
- Experience in non-profit and/or facility operations preferred
- Experience in budgetary and cost controls
- Effective written and oral communication, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and specific computer software as needed
- Physical ability to oversee and direct all facility service functions throughout property and relevant offsite locations; repeated walking, standing
- Availability to work flexible hours, including nights/weekends as needed
- Driver’s license to drive garden vehicles and personal vehicles for business purposes

- Team player with proven ability to work collaboratively and individually within complex organizations as well as build relationships with executive leadership, operational staff, guests and members, and donors
- Strategic thinker, self-motivated, detail-oriented
- Committed to quality of service and sensitivity to diversity and inclusion; ability to work in a dynamic, culturally diverse community
Compensation: $135,000.00 – 150,000.00
