Child Action, Inc. (CAI) is a private, non-profit corporation created in 1976 to promote the education and social welfare of children and families and to advocate on their behalf. Our programs include resource and referral services for families seeking child care, child care subsidies for qualifying families, recruitment and professional development of the child care workforce, and family education and support.

We are seeking individuals who are highly organized, have the ability to multi-task, provide excellent customer service, have good problem solving skills and have the ability to understand the problems and issues facing families from a variety of ethnic and economic communities.


 

Position Purpose & Scope:

Under the Direct supervision of the HR Director, the Human Resources Technician is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, leave & payroll processing experience. The HR Technician would closely work with HR Specialists to maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with federal, state laws and best practices. S/he will also handle a variety of personnel-related administrative duties.


 

Typical Duties:

  • Perform a variety of admin and technical tasks to support HR functions.
  • Maintain quality customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Assist in checking HR inbox and direct the emails in the right direction
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of day-to-day payroll records
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Assist staff with payroll related questions and forms
  • Process and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork; medical, personal, disability and FMLA and ensures compliance with State and federal leave and ADA laws
  • Respond to applicants regarding status of their résumés/applications as needed
  • Create and maintain recruitment, onboarding and benefit files
  • Support the HR team in scheduling interviews and tests.
  • Assist team for employee onboarding and recommend enhancements
  • Perform pre-employment verification of candidate’s employment history
  • Assist staff with Benefits and retirement related questions
  • Assist in organizing agency events
  • Perform any other duties needed to help drive our Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our agency’s Values

 

Education & Experience:

  • AA + 2 years comparable experience, or High School Diploma + 4 years comparable experience

 

Qualifications, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of commonly used concepts, principles, practices and procedures within the human resources field to include Federal and State Employment and Labor laws
  • Basic knowledge of pertinent federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations pertaining to leaves of absence and human resources
  • Basic knowledge of equal employment opportunity principles and practices
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of human resources files and recordkeeping
  • Knowledge of office procedures, methods and equipment including computers and applicable software applications.
  • Ability to demonstrate intermediate analytical, math, and computer skills
  • Ability to demonstrate intermediate verbal and written communication skills and customer service orientation
  • Ability to perform administrative, technical, and analytical duties in support of human resources
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply general and specific administrative and agency policies and procedures as well as applicable federal, state, and local policies, laws, and regulations
  • Ability to speak effectively to present information and respond to questions from employees
  • Ability to understand the operation of the agency and the relationship of outside agencies as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities
  • Ability to plan and organize work to meet changing priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to operate office equipment including computers and supporting software applications
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality in maintaining critical and sensitive information, records, and reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to comply with agency safety and ergonomics policies and practices; train staff in safety practices, ergonomics and work rules
  • Ability to work additional overtime and weekend hours as required

 

Physical Factors:

  • Works in an office setting. Work is primarily sedentary but may also work outdoors at field sites on an incidental basis and requires light physical effort; may require greater physical effort on an incidental basis
  • Possess visual capability and digital dexterity to operate a computer and other standard office equipment
  • Make fine visual distinctions upon proofreading written documents and viewing information on a computer screen
  • May be subject to various job demands such as high volume of work and tight deadlines
  • This position requires travel. Staff applying for or holding positions will be required to successfully meet Child Action, Inc.’s motor vehicle requirements.

 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


 

Pay Grade Range: $25.39 - $33.01 per hour


 

Closing Date: COB Tuesday, 7/23/2024


 

Hours: Must be able to work full-time, 40.0 hours per week (8.0 hours a day), Monday through Friday. All employees must be able to work additional overtime and weekend hours as required.
