PART-TIME HR SPECIALISTASK Childhood Cancer Foundation

ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation is Virginia’s most comprehensive services provider for children with cancer. We make life better for children with cancer by providing financial, educational, social, and emotional support.

This HR Specialist position is critical in supporting the ASK organization through its people processes, problems, strategies, and talent management systems. In addition to supporting the ASK leadership team, this HR Specialist will have the opportunity to impact ASK staff, enabling them to serve our children and families in need more easily and consistently. They will work directly with the organization as they navigate the team and staff performance and talent challenges while working closely with the leadership team to learn and provide valuable insight and guidance on where we might create efficiencies and achieve a better, more consistent experience as we serve our families.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ability to coach/advise employees and management through sensitive HR issues to resolve conflict and seek workable solutions; conduct individual and/or group facilitation to foster effective communication and healthy workplace relationships among employees and management; Investigate work-related or compliance issues and prepare summary reports, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, and various agencies at all levels of the organization; use reason and de-escalation skills to manage difficult or emotional situations; present facts and recommendations verbally and in writing; plan, design, implement, and conduct training for a diverse group of management and employees; maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Deliver operational excellence of HR programs and core processes (i.e., Associate Satisfaction, Performance Management, Staffing, Leadership Development and Change Management)
  • Directly support the organization in key decisions and help support and develop people management skills. (e.g., managing, coaching, and developing staff; setting objectives; performance reviews; talent development and experiential learning).
  • Assist with the recruiting and onboarding of new staff members.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team on designing key HR programs: provide feedback, input, and change management considerations to ensure that end products are relevant, applicable, and achieve desired end results.
  • Participate in business initiatives/projects, lending expertise on people-related matters.
  • Occasional Travel /Flexible Part-Time Schedule of 20-24 hours per week

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
  • At least 2 years of client-facing experience or consulting experience or a combination of both
  • At least 2 years of experience in Human Resources
