Description:

Responsible for planning, directing, reviewing, and administering the operations of the Police Department and act as an innovative leader for a diverse workforce. This position reports to the Deputy Executive Director & CCO.

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, develops, and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.

Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and oversees the revision of the Police Departments procedure manual.

Directs and manages all Police services and activities including maintenance of law and order, protection of life and property, regulation of traffic, apprehension, arrest, and detention of law violators, policing of the airport community, and maintenance of police records.

Ensures department compliance with DHS, TSA and FAA rules and regulations regarding law enforcement and security requirements; oversees and directs law enforcement actions and requirements as needed; directs the selection, supervision, training, and evaluation of department staff; initiates and implements disciplinary actions as necessary; resolves grievances, complaints, and other sensitive personnel matters.

Oversees identification of criminal activity trends in the community; works with task force teams, community education, and deterrent methods to increase effectiveness of law enforcement efforts; works closely with other law enforcement agencies, emergency communication services, special districts, and agencies to provide coordinated regional law enforcement services, emergency communication, and disaster planning.

Addresses CCAA employees, professional organizations, and community groups regarding the activities and programs of the department to promote public understanding of the department’s work and establish positive public relations; directs emergency operations at major incidents; works cooperatively with other law enforcement units, and other agencies to ensure thorough presence and investigation, and to restore safety.

Oversees development and administration of the department budget and authorizes purchases and monitors expenditures to ensure proper disbursement of funds.

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or related field.
  • Eight (8) years of lead or supervisory experience in law enforcement or related field.
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.

SPECIFIC LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

  • Must possess and maintain Criminal Justice LE1 Police Certification.
  • Valid South Carolina driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, explosives, firearms, violence, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.
