Respiratory Health Association (RHA) is a 501(c)(3) organization that aims to prevent lung disease, promote clean air, and help people live better through education, research, and policy change. Founded in 1906, RHA is a small but powerful leader in lung health with a dedicated team that has been a part of transformational initiatives to address asthma, COPD, lung cancer, tobacco control, and air quality for all, with an added focus on disadvantaged communities.

Respiratory Health Association seeks a new Chief Executive Officer based in Chicago, IL, to lead the organization.

Job Overview

The CEO is responsible for ensuring RHA achieves its mission by providing strategic and day-to-day leadership, enhancing relationships throughout the community, and ensuring proper cash flow through effective fundraising and budget management.

The ideal candidate for this position is an active, transparent, and experienced non-profit leader with a proven track record with fundraising and understands the importance of collaborating internally and externally for optimal success.

This position is for you if you enjoy building relationships with donors, corporations, community members, and community leaders, understand the complexities of leading teams within non-profits, and are ready to advocate for policy change, programs, and research to improve lung health.

Job Details

  • Ensures ongoing programmatic excellence by providing oversight and day-to-day support to the organization and its programs
  • Ensure proper cashflow to support programs and operations, adjusting the budget and fundraising activities accordingly
  • Cultivates relationships with new and existing individual donors, corporations, foundations, and government agencies
  • Leads the planning and implementation of RHA’s strategic plan
  • Collaborates to develop and manage an annual budget
  • Monitors data and makes appropriate adjustments to programs and the operating plan
  • Establishes and enhances community and business partnerships to achieve RHA’s vision of community and sustainability
  • Leads and retains staff by providing supervision, guidance, and motivation
  • Empowers staff by delegating proper authority and responsibility
  • Provides ongoing guidance, review, and evaluation of grant writing and proposal development
  • Supports, develops, and expands the Board of Directors
  • Maintains confidence and enthusiasm of the Board by attending all board meetings, participating in committees, engaging the board in RHA’s activities, and providing timely information on the key triumphs and pressing needs
  • Acts as the lead spokesperson for RHA, including representation at public functions
  • Strives to ensure RHA is a leader in non-profit operations, programs, and fundraising
  • Acts as a thought leader in emerging trends in health education and philanthropy
  • Completes other duties as required to ensure the ongoing success of the organization

Requirements

  • Extensive non-profit operations knowledge
  • A track record of fundraising success
  • Experience in managing organizational and program budgets
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Ten years of leadership experience
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Strong communications skills
  • Has high integrity
  • Ability to motivate and retain team members
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Master’s degree (preferred)
  • Ability to attend evening and weekend events and support the organization outside of regular business hours

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $160,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
